The Advanced Teaching section is an extension of the teaching scheme and as such all groups will concentrate on stroke development and develop the aspects of competitive swimming needed for squad swimming.  Methods used in this section will not be too different to those used in the teaching pool, swimmers will gradually progress through the 3 groups, increasing pool size and weekly pool time as they progress.

Group

Description

Seal

This group is the natural progression from the ‘learn to swim’ scheme into the main pool structure, and is the first of the 3 junior developmental squads. Swimmers will be expected to perform Frontcrawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke to a reasonable standard for an unbroken distance of 50m. They must also show an understanding of Butterfly.

Sting Ray As part of this group swimmers will be expected to be able to complete 50m of Frontcrawl, Backstroke and Breaststroke to a reasonable standard, showing correct streamlining and regular breathing on all strokes.  Swimmers should also be able to swim 20m of Butterfly with recognisable technique.
Shark This is the third and final group of the junior developmental programme.  Swimmers should be competent enough to swim 50m of all four competitive strokes to a legal standard (exceptions will be made for certain unavoidable stroke deficiencies).  Correct streamlining will be expected throughout the course of all sessions on all strokes, and swimmers should be able to perform a forward and backward roll confidently in the water.
