George Wilson visits London 2012 Olympic Pool
After winning UK schools games in early September, George Wilson was selected to attend a press event at the London 2012 Olympic Pool in Stratford, including a race against past and present GB internationals Mark Foster, Liam Tancock and Hannah Miley.
The 2012 Olympic pool is the most inspirational swimming venue with 20,000 seats stretching up into the air like a football stadium. The 10 lane 50m pool seems tiny in the huge building and even the 10m diving platform into the 8 lane 25m diving pit is shadowed by the 2 areas for the massive TV displays.
The competition pool itself is 3m deep all the way along, and at the other side of the glass wall, at one end of the competition arena, there is a 10 lane 50m warm up pool. After the games this glass wall will be removed to link the two areas and create 120m of swimming pool in one building.
You can only imagine the noise and the atmosphere when the seats are filled during the Olympics. The first test event will be the Olympic Trials in March 2012, which Staines swimmer Ruth Scanlan has already qualified for and George is only 0.11 away from.
Anyone who doubts the impact that the Olympics will have on sport in the UK, needs to visit the pool.
Amazing!
