2008 Club Novice Championships

Child Welfare Notice - All persons not participating in the competition please note: -

In accordance with the ASA Child Protection Guidelines, no parents are allowed on poolside during the galas.  All poolside helpers at the galas are Police Checked via the ASA and the Criminal Records Bureau and have Enhanced Disclosures.

Please also refer to Promoters Condition 11 below regarding photography.

Events

This year the Novice Championships will include the 100m I/M for all age groups.  The championships are being held over two days on separate weekends as follows: -

Sunday, 6th April

The age groups for medals are: -

  • 8 & Under
  • 9 Years

  • 15 & Over

The age groups above are as at 31st December 2008!

Medals will be presented for the fastest 3 swimmers in each age group for each event.  There will be no finals, the swimmers winning medals will be determined after all swimmers have swum the event.  Winning a heat doesn't mean you win the event or a medal!

The closing date for entries is the 29th February 2008 and will be strictly adhered to, late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances!

This year we will be using Meet Manager computer software to run the event, therefore there will not be any entry cards.

Lynn Carter will try and get around to all the junior squads to hand forms out.

There is an entry fee which is £2 for every event entered, so if you enter all events you will have to pay £10.

Entry Criteria & Rules

  1. Swimmers must have been a club member for 3 full calendar months prior to the entry closing date and be swimming in any Main Pool section of the club (not the teaching scheme, White to Red Hats).  Club and ASA membership fees must be fully up to date.
  2. A swimmer can enter any event in the Novices providing that they haven’t won a Gold medal in any Club Novices or Club Championships competition at any time, over any distance, for each stroke being entered.  Time trials will only be accepted from swimmers who have been in the club less than 3 months before the entry closing date.
  3. An entry fee of £2.00 for each event entered must accompany the entry form, no fee paid, no entry made!
  4. Fees and entry forms must be returned to Lynn Carter by Friday, 29th February 2008.  Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances.  You may send your entry form to Lynn Carter by post with a cheque for the correct amount, the entry must reach her by the closing date, she will not be held responsible for entries not received in time.

Promoter's Conditions

Please take time to read the promoters conditions below as they contain very important information for swimmers and parents.  These conditions will also appear in the official programme.

  • All events will be conducted in accordance with ASA Laws and Technical Rules.
  • Ages will be as at 31 December 2008.
  • The Club are using Hytek software and this will be a cardless meet, registration for all events will take place in the foyer of Spelthorne leisure centre between 5.30-6pm.
  • All participants and spectators must observe all safety precautions in operation at the pool and follow instructions of Pool Staff and Staines SC Management Team. Prior to leaving poolside swimmers must dry off and put on appropriate clothing and footwear. No swimmers will be allowed into the spectator area or the main entrance foyer area unless they have complied with this requirement. For safety reasons spectators must ensure that all gangways and the rear of the spectator area are kept clear. All swimmers should remain on poolside at all times unless permission is obtained from the Whips or Coaches.
  • All entrants excluding time trials must have been members of the Club for three calendar months prior to the date of the competition and must have all membership and ASA fees up to date. Swimmers, who have been members of the Club for less than three months, are eligible to enter all events as time trials.
  • The One-Start Rule will apply. All events are seeded by swimming group and age within the group, i.e. youngest Seal first to oldest Platinum Performance last.
  • All swimmers will swim strictly in the seeding order from lanes 1 to 6 except for the last heat, which will be swum in a spearhead formation.
  • Over the top starts will be used at the discretion of the Staines SC Management Team and the Referee. The decision of the Referee on a point of law is final.
  • There will be no finals; winners will be on a heat declared winner basis. The fastest swimmer in each age group (i.e. 2000 and younger, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993 & older) in each event will be the declared winner. All age groups swimming 25m of each stroke (1998 and younger) will be seeded and swum together, the same applies for all age groups swimming 50m of each stroke (1997 and older). All age groups will swim the 100m individual medley.
  • Medals are presented to the first 3 swimmers in each age group for each event, on the night.
  • Video Recording/Photography/Mobile Telephones

    In accordance with the recommendations of the ASA Child Protection Policy, any person wishing to engage in video, zoom or close range photography, including the use of mobile telephones with photographic capabilities, must first register their details on the form provided at the entrance desk. They will be provided with an identification label (permit) which must be worn at all times. The Promoter reserves the right to refuse the granting of a permit. It is requested that all mobile telephones are switched off or switched to silent during the competition and that there is no flash photography at the start of each event.

  • Spectator entrance will be charged at £1 per adult and £1 per programme.
  • The Promoter reserves the right to amend the Conditions, without prior notice, to ensure the smooth running of the Novices.
  • For any matters not covered by these Conditions Staines SC Management will make any decisions it deems necessary to provide for the satisfactory running of the competition. By submitting an entry participants have deemed to agree to such decisions.

Parents and swimmers are reminded that all swimmers are advised that they are permitted to start in the water for all events, and must also be advised that they should only dive into water of less than 1.8 metres if they feel they have been properly instructed and are competent to do so.
