Introduction

Staines Swimming Club strives to promote swimming in the borough of Spelthorne and surrounding area. With the aim of providing its members with a structured programme, it is ensured that they fulfil their potential whatever their ability.

Teaching Pool

Staines Swimming Club has its own purpose build teaching pool based at Matthew Arnold Secondary School.  Qualified swimming instructors teach the fundaments of water confidence, skills and stroke technique. This valuable asset provides a reservoir of talent as swimmers progress from our unique learn to swim programme into the main pool.

The Matthew Arnold School is opposite Warwick Avenue on the Kingston Road, see the map below.

Main Pool

The main pool has five sub-sections, Platinum, Diamond, Ruby, Pre-Squad and Senior/Master, swimming time varies between 1 and 13 hours per week depending on the sub-section group.  All groups are coached by a team of qualified teachers and coaches including a full time professional Chief Coach.

The schedule is arranged so that nearly every member of the club has the opportunity to train on Sunday which is designated 'Club Night'.  The club has pool time at Spelthorne Leisure Centre, Sunbury Leisure Centre, Lady Eleanor Holles School, Aldershot Leisure Centre and Bishop Wand Secondary School pool as well as using it's own teaching pool at The Matthew Arnold School.

The Management Committee

The Management committee, governing Staines Swimming Club, consists of an Executive Committee comprising chairman, secretary and treasurer and currently six other officials.  The Management committee meets monthly.  A record of the minutes are published on the club notice board shortly after each meeting.  The club notice board can be found in the foyer of Spelthorne Leisure Centre.

There is also a Swimming Sub-committee which meets bimonthly-monthly. Chaired by the chief coach these meetings are attended by the fixtures secretary, team manager and small pool liaison officer, this meeting may also be attended by two older swimmers who relay comments and issues on behalf of all the other swimming members. The swimming sub-committee is concerned with all aspects relating to the practicalities of swimming, open meets, training, training camps, fixtures and competition.
